Currently White Iron is fully covered in ice. It is not great ice meaning there are multiple layers of frozen snow, slush and ice. I would assume that there is only 12 to 14 inches of “good” ice. With that in mind it will melt fast as the temps rise over the next few days. I will be checking open water at Silver Rapids bridge and across the lake from the south landing facing Bear Grease Island and the opening to the Kawishiwi (Birch) River. The next ten days will tell the tale of whether we will be soft or hard water fishing on opener. I think soft. I will try to update this about every two to three days for the next 10 to 14 days and then daily if necessary. Keep watching the web cam.
