Holiday news from White Iron Beach Resort
Fishing, families, beach and fun in Ely, Minnesota!
Hello Kerry,
As the holiday season is upon us we find ourselves reflecting on the past years and those who have helped to shape our business. We hope that 2018 has been just as memorable for you and your loved ones as it has been for us, and that 2019 is even better. The Christmas spirit is inside each and everyone of us. Wishing you warm Holiday Greetings this Holiday season.
This will be our first Christmas without Kerry’s mom who passed away in November. We will miss her dearly but her memories will live in our hearts forever. As hard as it is to loose a loved one we are very blessed and doing well. Best news ever is that our granddaughter Bella who is 11, is now two years cancer free. We couldn’t be happier!.
Bella continues to love dance, singing and volleyball. Mason is keeping us busy in his sports activities which are football, basketball and baseball. As for those who don’t know Chad and Tiffany are now the proud owners of the Blue Heron Bed and Breakfast which opened this past June. The had a great summer and fall season and will have two rooms open for the winter season if you just want to come up for a little winter get away.
Jace is now 6 and in his second year of hockey he just loves it. John and Rachel will keep busy following him around. John is very blessed to be busy with his construction business. We sold our last lot next door at Retreats on White Iron Lake which John is in the process of building a three bedroom cabin for the new owner.
Taylor is taking a little break from working so hard at the resort this summer. He is working at the school and at Mikes Liquors which is nice for a short change (until next summer when he will be back working at the resort. HOPEFULLY). He is a great uncle following Mason, Bella, and Jace around in all their activities.
As for Kerry and I we will be starting our sport shows in January but will take a little break to travel to Florida for a couple of weeks and then finish up on sport shows in March. Of course there will be a cabin or two getting a new renovation.
We wish you all a Happy and Safe Holiday and Happy New Year!
The upcoming sport show schedule is:

P.S. White Iron Beach Resort will no longer be a permit cooperator due to changes being made by the USFS. There are many outfitters in town like Voyageur North and Spirit of the Wilderness to name a couple which can issue permits for you, along with the folks at the USFS office across 169 from the Wolf Center. If you have any questions about how this may impact the way you have ordered or have had permits issued in the past please do not hesitate to call us.
2019 is Filling Up Fast!
If you did not re-book before you left last summer please call or write soon to lock in your favorite cabin or cabins. Fishing opener is right around the corner and we look forward to the first guests of the season driving down the road (specifically roads that aren’t snow covered;). Please check our website www.whiteironbeach.com for all the current up to date info and specials.

***Ice Report***
Ice vary greatly from lake to lake and even on the same lake, so anglers are strongly encouraged to carry a ice chisel with them and check ice as the go. Lakes with the best ice have about 4 to 7 inches of good ice near the shoreline, while others have only capped over in the last week and have yet to have safe ice near shore.
***Fishing Report***
Walleye – Walleye fishing has been good for many anglers. Anglers are catching walleyes in 15-20 feet of water with shiners, rainbows or chubs on a set line and flashy spoons or moonshine minnows actively fished on the other. Main lake points have been most productive.
Pike – Pike fishing has also been good for anglers fishing Alewife and Smelt under tip-ups. Anglers should look for them at the mouths of shallow bays, outside weed edges and in deeper weedbeds. Most of the bigger pike are being caught in 10 feet of water or less.
Panfish – Sunfish fishing has been has been slow, but angler are marking good numbers of fish, just having a hard time getting them to bite. Waxies fished with a small tungsten jig, in shallow weedbeds has been the best way to find and catch fish.
Crappie fishing has been very good. Angler able to find safe ice out to the deep holes where the crappies are located are finding aggressive fish. Anglers should look for them in 20-30 feet of water. Small jigging spoons, tear drop jigs and small bucktail jigs tipped with a crappie minnow or waxies have been the go to baits.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Whoops! (skid steer and Kerry are ok)
Jace is ready for the hockey season!
Mason waiting patiently for that tirty point buck!
Bella’s two year scans are clear!
