December News from WIBR

Ice on White Iron Lake

Finally a smooth skim of ice over White Iron Lake.

We hope everyone enjoyed the first leg of this holiday season marathon. We traveled to Illinois, like we do most years, spreading our time there between our families. We also had a 90th birthday celebration for my (Kerry’s) mom who will turn 90 later in December. The plan is to stay around Ely for most of December and enjoy the balance of the holidays at home.
We missed the Christmas/Holiday parade in Ely again. They always have it Thanksgiving weekend so we have only attended one in our 21 years up in Ely. The word is it was a nice event: a fraction of the extravaganza we have on the 4th of July which everyone needs to see at least one time in their life.
Many of the winter activities will start soon. Ice fishing, dog sled treks, snowmobiling and skiing and among a few.
Watch for our snail mail holiday letter over the next couple of weeks. I will also post it on the web site under the monthly newsletters tab.
We do plan on attending the same sport shows this upcoming Spring:
  • Schaumburg, IL
  • Tinly Park, IL
  • Eau Claire, WI
  • Minneapolis, MN
I will post the exact dates in future newsletters and on our Facebook page.
Take care,
-Kerry and Sandy

Fishing Reports

Fishing Report
Ice has been slow coming this year. Warmer temps and some windy days have delayed ice formation on most area lakes. I did see some fools out on Robinson Lake on the 24th as we were leaving for Illinois. We are having evening temps in the lower teens so ice will be building. If the snow holds off for a week or two we will have a good firm layer of black strong ice. I’m sure we will start seeing the little cities of ice shacks form on Shagawa Lake very soon.
