We have had a great start to the summer. Pretty warm temps and a decent amount of sun too. It is hard to believe it will be the 4th of July in just three days. The summers seem to fly by quicker each year. Speaking of the 4th, the biggest small town parade in the world is much anticipated. Floats, candy and more will be for all to enjoy starting around 1:00 with other activities in the park too. Followed by a great fireworks display over Miner’s Lake.
The few days of rain have been a welcome sight for the merchants and attractions in town. The sidewalks fill up when the boating and beach weather is not so nice. The crowds at the Tuesday Night live and the Farmers market have been great too. The Farmers market starts at 5:00 and music around town starts at about 7:00. Later in July brings us the Blueberry Arts Fest, July 24-26, it has been bigger and better every year. Remember to reserve some time if you are in town from 1-3 on the 26th to listen to Timmy Haus in the park. He is a great singer and musician that we met last year in Grand Marais. We will be there. Also a heads up about Ely’s newest big event, The Ely Marathon.
It is happening September 25 and 26. Here’s the link http://www.elymarathon.com/ .
We still have some great vacation opportunities available. It’s never too late to make those last minute plans to visit us and the Ely area. Make sure to call soon to guarantee the cabin and week/weeks or days you prefer. Please check the web site www.whiteironbeach.com for all the current up to date info and specials.
Take care.

The walleye fishing has been pretty good so far this early summer. OK numbers but lots of small ones and good numbers of slot fish going back. The bass and northern are very active as the water is warming up nicely. We are continuing to see some really nice crappies well over 13 inches and really thick across the back. Even though we have had overall good weather is has not been consistent which has affected the success of most anglers. We also just finished having a huge may fly hatch. The walleyes were grubbing on them big time but now they are gone and will be looking for your leech or minnow.
If you have questions or need help in submitting a lottery or permit request please give me a call. If you want to pick up your permit at WIBR just choose us as your option as permit cooperator/issuing station. Remember, it is always better to reserve a permit if you think you want to go on a motorized BWCAW trip. If you change your mind it only costs you $6.00. But also remember to be courteous to others who may want to use the BWCAW and cancel unwanted permits in a timely manner so they can be reissued to another party.
Remember, we do have guides available for White Iron and trips to other lakes. I have been posting pictures in the fishing report on the web site www.whiteironbeach.com , so check it often.
