March 2015

This past month was pretty uneventful. Did a couple of sport shows and basically tried to stay warm. The snow came in small doses but it has added up to make pretty good trail riding on the sleds and very good trails for the skiers. The bitter cold many days curtailed some activity as did the wind on several days which is a bit unusual for us during most winters. It is interesting to listen to the national news and hear about the 10,20 and 30 below wind chill temps, our temps are routinely that cold with out the wind. I’m not sure if we are sturdy or stupid but we work through it many days and nights every winter. This time of year we do start counting the days until we might be able to walk around without pushing several inches (or feet) of snow with our Mukluks. We have several resort projects, some started months ago, that we would love to get to soon. When it is 20 below and the wind is blowing it is tough to heat any of the summer cabins enough to make our tools work.

Fishing opener, May 9th, is just around the corner and we really look forward to seeing the first guests of the season driving down the road. If you have not made your fishing trip or vacation plans yet, please call soon.

We will be going  to Eau Claire Wisconsin for our next sport show. . That show runs from March 20th to the 22nd. Reminder, it is at a new venue so please check the show web site for info. Eau Claire Show Info . That following week we will be at the convention center in downtown Minneapolis. That show starts the 25th of March and will end on Sunday the 29th.  Minneapolis Sport Show Info We would really love to see you all at one of the shows. We will keep posing the shows dates over the next few weeks on Facebook to remind you.

We are now taking reservations for the 2015 season.   Make sure to call soon to guarantee the cabin and week/weeks or days you prefer. Please check the web site www.whiteironbeach.com for all the current up to date info and specials.

 Take care.

Fishing Reports

The walleye are out of season until opening day, May 9th. There are some border water areas that will have open seasons until about the middle of April like Lake of the Woods and the Rainy River.

The first couple of pictures below are crappies caught on a very secrete area lake. Chase A from Zumbrota caught the biggest one. The crappies should start snapping on Farm and South Farms lakes in the next few weeks. Hopefully the ice lasts into the middle of April as that is when they really start to bite.

The other pictures are from an ice fishing trip that Sandy and I took with our friends Pat and Jane Murphy from Coon Rapids. We had a great time and did pretty good fishing too. I would recommend Ken Mar Ke Resort in Baudett. Bob and Wanda, the owners, were very friendly and the accommodations were well kept and super clean. The bar was a friendly place and the food was very good and plentiful. Here’s a link to their web site

Boundary water permits are selling out fast so please call if you have any desire for a guided trip in to Basswood Lake.
Reservations for all BWCAW entry points can be made on a first-come, first-served basis starting 1/28/15. Reservations can be made online or by calling 1-877-444-6777.
To get further info go to   Bwcaw permit info

If you have questions or need help in submitting a lottery or permit request please give me a call. If you want to pick up your permit at WIBR just choose us as your option as permit cooperator/issuing station.  Remember, it is always better to reserve a permit if you think you want to go on a motorized BWCAW trip. If you change your mind it only costs you $6.00. But also remember to be courteous to others who may want to use the BWCAW and cancel unwanted permits in a timely manner so they can be reissued to another party.

Remember, we do have guides available for White Iron and trips to other lakes. I have been posting pictures in the fishing report on the web site www.whiteironbeach.com , so check it often.
