January was a pretty quite month for us and the area too. We are very glad this year has been milder temperature wise but we really wish we had a foot more snow. The lakes are great for sledding, skiing and ice fishing but the trails are a bit sparse of snow. We are expecting some snow over the next week which will be a very welcome site. The city and local contractors were busy moving snow from area lakes into the park for the snow sculptures that will be carved very soon. About 3 years ago almost all the snow for the art had to be hauled in. Where there is a will there is a way. The Winterfest activities start next week and will run through about the 15th.
There is a lot of activity in the downtown area. Several building have changed hands over the last 6 months. Building improvements are under way and hopefully everyone visiting this summer will have new places to shop and visit. The theater was one of the buildings purchased and everyone in town is looking forward to it’s possible opening this year.
Another business opening will be selling custom made fishing rods and many Ely unique items. They will also have some fun photo opp displays available.
We are currently in Schaumburg Illinois attending our first sport show. It runs from January 29th to February 1st. We will stay in the Chicago area for the Tinley Park High School show the following weekend, February 7th and 8th. We will take a break until we go to Eau Claire Wisconsin. That show runs from March 20th to the 22nd. That following week we will be at the convention center in downtown Minneapolis. That show starts the 25th of March and will end on Sunday the 29th. We would really love to see you all at one of the shows. We will keep posing the shows dates over the next few months to remind you.
We are now taking reservations for the 2015 season. Make sure to call soon to guarantee the cabin and week/weeks or days you prefer. Please check the web site www.whiteironbeach.com for all the current up to date info and specials.
Take care.

If you have questions or need help in submitting a lottery or permit request please give me a call. If you want to pick up your permit at WIBR just choose us as your option as permit cooperator/issuing station. Remember, it is always better to reserve a permit if you think you want to go on a motorized BWCAW trip. If you change your mind it only costs you $6.00. But also remember to be courteous to others who may want to use the BWCAW and cancel unwanted permits in a timely manner so they can be reissued to another party.
Remember, we do have guides available for White Iron and trips to other lakes. I have been posting pictures in the fishing report on the web site www.whiteironbeach.com , so check it often.
