March News

Just one of many amazing snow sculptures at this years Snow Sculpture Symposium in Whiteside Park.

This past month has been pretty eventful with many different things going on. The unusually warm weather for this time of year made walking around the Snow Sculpture Symposium enjoyable. It did however cause the sculptures to deteriote a little faster but all in all it was great to see so many people out and about. Ely also hosted the 2nd annual Great Nordic Beardfest this past month. Like last year it was a huge success and a tremendous turnout both by participants and spectators. If you’re thinking about making the trip up and entering in the competition next year you might want to think about starting to grow out that beard now! The competion is getting pretty fierce. We did get a little more snow which was needed and made both lake and trail riding better for snowmobile riders. Bella entered and sang in the ‘We’ve Got Talent’ talent show. She did an amazing job singing ‘Hallelujah’ acapella taking home First Place!

The Cabin 13 project is well on its way. Demo is completed and the new space has been laid out and ready for framing. Now we just need John’s other projects to slow down and we can keep moving forward. Spring will be here before we know it. Look out for renovation pictures on our Facebook page.

The Tinley Park show went very well. Kerry made a solo trip down this year. He was able to connect with some of you and catch up on what has been going on over the last few months. We will be heading down to the Eau Claire show on the 18th. If your in the area stop on by we would love to catch up with you.

Upcoming show schedule:
  • Eau Claire, WI March 18th – 20th show info
  • Minneapolis, MN March 30th – April 3rd Show Info

We are already getting many inquires for the 2016 season. If you did not re-book before you left this summer please call or write soon to lock in your favorite cabin or cabins. Fishing opener is right around the corner and we look forward to the first guests of the season driving down the road (specifically roads that aren’t snow covered;). Please check our website www.whiteironbeach.com for all the current up to date info and specials.

Fishing Reports

As the 2016 walleye/pike season has closed, some anglers will now turn their attention to trout fishing. Ice conditions haven’t been the greatest but there are still a great many of lakes with fishable ice. Burntside, Snowbank and Basswood are the three most productive lakes for lake trout in the area.

The crappie bite is well under way now and should continue to produce fish as long as conditions will alllow. This late season fishing requires extra caution when traveling out on the lakes but can be very rewarding.
